Avira WebProtector protects against malicious and unwanted web contents

Tettnang, 18 September 2006 – surfing at work: those who land on the wrong website may very quickly be infected by nasty malware or access indecent, usually dubious contents. This can have negative consequences - for employees and for the company. Avira, Germany’s largest supplier of security solutions is now launching WebProtector, software that makes it possible to restrict and control Internet access in the company.

Avira WebProtector is a technologically refined security solution to filter out unwanted or illegal Internet contents. The software can be used both for professional and for private purposes and is based on one of the most efficient URL filter lists worldwide. This consists of approximately 70 million entries, for which approximately six billion Internet pages were analyzed. Avira WebProtector is daily updated with 50,000 new and altered websites. For this, all Internet contents are categorized into content groups and restructured, adapted and extended daily with the aid of a special ‘WebLearn Function’.

With Avira WebProtector it is possible to create surfing profiles for up to 1,000 users with user-specific rights and surfing times. It is thus possible, for example, to limit surfing in the company to the lunch break. Data downloads can also be partly or completely blocked. With the aid of a monitoring tool and a report file, IT administrators have an overview and full control of the system at all times.

The filter settings of WebProtector can only be configured and changed by IT administrators. This is ensured by the RBCD technology patented by Avira, which makes unauthorized deletion or circumvention of the security software impossible.
WebProtector concentrates in particular on German language or European websites and is not exclusively restricted to English language key words. The security software thus provides comprehensive protection and the efficiency of its filter function is not limited from the outset.

‘Companies wishing to protect themselves against malware and illegal website clicks of their employees have a quick and easy solution in WebProtector. The program is easy to install and protected against manipulation. Due to the individually configurable filter settings, employees are not bossed around but can continue to access sites that are important for them’, says Gernot Hacker, vice president and security expert at Avira.

Avira WebProtector supports all conventional browsers and works independently of the individual Internet provider. The software is now available from authorized Avira resellers for EUR 49.95 (recommended retail price) and can also be obtained from the online shop of Avira at
