Avira VDF Update
Because Avira updates its detection files silently and automatically, most of our users never need to install their own virus definition updates (VDF).
Performing an Avira manual update is only necessary under special circumstances, e.g., initiating an Avira VDF update without an internet connection.
Performing an Avira manual update
Although automatic updating is the best way to stay protected, you can update Avira antivirus manually anytime. For Windows users, the easiest way is to right-click the Avira icon in the taskbar and select Start update.
You can also use our free Avira update tool to perform an Avira manual update. This utility creates an archive (fuse bundle) containing the latest engine, the Avira VDF update files and the corresponding Avira antivirus update control files (info.gz).

To update Avira manually using the Fusebundle Generator, simply follow the steps outlined below.

DOWNLOAD THE AVIRA UPDATE GENERATOR.
The Avira update free tool (also known as the Fusebundle Generator) can be found here.
UNPACK THE AVIRA MANUAL UPDATE APPLICATION.
Decompress avira_fusebundlegen-win32-en.zip and open the avira_fusebundlegen-win32-en folder.
RUN THE AVIRA UPDATE GENERATOR.
Double click on fusebundle.exe and wait for the fuse bundle archive (the Avira VDF update, engine and control files) to be generated. A new Install folder will also be created; this is where you can save vdf_fusebundle.zip.
INITIATE THE AVIRA ANTIVIRUS UPDATE.
Open the Avira product, click Update from the top menu and select Manual Update.
LOAD THE AVIRA UPDATE ARCHIVE (THE FUSE BUNDLE).
In the popup window, navigate to the Install folder and open the vdf_fusebundle.zip archive.
UPDATE AVIRA
All existing detection files will be replaced, even if they are newer than those in the generated archive. A progress bar will indicate the status of your Avira antivirus update.
