How do I uninstall my Avira Antivirus product?

In order to remove an Avira Antivirus product from your system please proceed as follows.

Windows XP

  1. Click on: Start → Settings → Control Panel → Add or Remove Programs
  2. Search the Avira product and click on Remove
  3. Confirm the following product uninstall notification with Yes
  4. Confirm the activation of the Windows Firewall with Yes
  5. The Avira Setup will take some minutes to uninstall the product
  6. Confirm the notification to restart your system with Yes
  7. After the reboot of your PC the Avira product is completely removed

Windows 7

  1. Click on: Start → Control Panel → Programs → Programs and Features
  2. Search the Avira product, click with the right mouse button on it and select Uninstall
  3. Confirm the following product uninstall notification with Yes
  4. Confirm the activation of the Windows Firewall with Yes
  5. The Avira Setup will take some minutes to uninstall the product
  6. Confirm the notification to restart your system with Yes
  7. After the reboot of your PC the Avira product is completely removed

Windows 8

  1. A click with the right mouse button in the lower left corner of your “Start” screen (Windows-button + x) will bring up the new Window Quick Access Menu. Once the Quick Access Menu is displayed click on Programs and Features
  2. Search the Avira product, click with the right mouse button on it and select Uninstall
  3. Confirm the following product uninstall notification with Yes
  4. Confirm the activation of the Windows Firewall with Yes
  5. The Avira Setup will take some minutes to uninstall the product
  6. Confirm the notification to restart your system with Yes
  7. After the reboot of your PC the Avira product is completely removed

Windows 8.1

  1. Keyboard shortcut Windows Logo+F → Control Panel → Programs and Features
  2. Click with the right mouse button on “Avira Antivirus” and select with the left mouse button Uninstall
  3. Confirm the following product uninstall notification with Yes
  4. Confirm the activation of the Windows Firewall with Yes
  5. The Avira Setup will take some minutes to uninstall the product
  6. Confirm the notification to restart your system with Yes
  7. After the reboot of your PC the Avira product is completely removed

Windows 10

  1. Click the Windows icon in the lower left corner of your screen → Settings → System → Apps & features
  2. Click first on Avira Antivirus and subsequently on Uninstall
  3. Confirm the following product uninstall notification with Uninstall
  4. Confirm the request of the “User Account Control” with Yes
  5. Confirm the request of the Avira setup with Yes
  6. The Avira Setup will take some minutes to uninstall the product
  7. Confirm the notification to restart your system with Yes
  8. After the reboot of your PC the Avira product is completely removed

Mac

Due to the fact that Avira Free Antivirus for Mac is deep anchored in the Apple operating system, Avira provides an uninstall tool which removes cleanly the program from your system.

  1. Navigate in the menu bar to Finder → Go → Utilities
  2. Double-click on the Avira-Uninstall icon to launch the uninstallation wizard. (The Avira uninstallation wizard can be started as well by clicking Applications and dragging afterwards the Avira-Uninstall logo to the trash)
  3. Confirm the deletion of the quarantined files before starting with the uninstallation
  4. Authenticate with user name (with administrative rights) and password
  5. Avira Free Antivirus for Mac will be removed from your computer


  6. Note
    In case the standard uninstall fails (e.g. because of some error messages like Errorcode: 7 or Feature Control File missing), perform alternatively a manual uninstallation.
