How do I setup Avira Antivirus on macOS 10.14 Mojave?

info_icon
Starting with macOS 10.14 Mojave the Avira Antivirus requires additional access rights on the user system to run properly.

Note
How to set up your Avira Antivirus on the previous macOS 10.13 High Sierra version, please see this article.

If after installation a red dot is displayed on the Avira icon, it indicates that the product has been installed successfully, but is not ready to be used.

The Antivirus requires a user interaction to explicitly grant permissions to the users' calendar, messages, mail and application data. These access rights are required for the Antivirus real-time protection so that it can detect malicious files as well in these folders.

Follow the Avira installation wizard to enable the settings or follow the steps below.

  1. Open System Preferences.
  2. Go to Security and Privacy settings.
Make sure that you are in menu General.
  3. Click Allow in the lower right corner.

    Note
Under certain circumstances, it may happen that the Allow button is not shown. In this case, please uninstall the Antivirus, reboot your system, reinstall Avira Antivirus and start again the setup.
