Avira Version 10 or older: Does Avira Firewall support IPv6?

If you use Windows with IPv6 network services (Internet Protocol version 6), the connection is currently not protected by Avira Firewall. The IPv6 protocol is installed by default for the network adapter starting with Windows Vista. So if you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, then your IPv6 connection is not checked by Avira Firewall.

We are currently working on the complete support of the IPv6 protocol in one of the future Avira AntiVir versions. Until then, we recommend you to follow these steps:

Deactivate IPv6 for network connection(s)

  1. Open Control Panel - Network and Sharing Center
  2. Click Manage network connections (Windows Vista) or Change adapter settings (Windows 7)
  3. Double-click every item and select Properties
  4. Remove the checkmark for Internet Protocol version 6
  5. Press OK to close.

Activate Windows Firewall

  1. Open Control Panel - Windows Firewall
  2. Click the option Turn Windows Firewall on or off
  3. Click On (Windows Vista) or Turn on Windows Firewall to activate the Firewall.
  4. Press OK to close.
  5. Check the advanced settings for increased security for IPv6 connections.
