AntiVir® and CryptoEx find viruses in encrypted emails

Tettnang, November 24, 2004 – H+BEDV Datentechnik GmbH, provider of cross-system business security solutions and the Glück & Kanja Technology AG, leading producer of applications for encryption, public key infrastructures and digital signatures struck up a deal to a strategic partnership. Within this co-operation of both products, AntiVir and CryptoEx, were combined to enable a virus scan of end-to-end-encrypted emails, for the first time. Through this, the two companies are responding to the increased demand for detailed integrated security solutions and strengthen their position in the security market.

The products CryptoEx Outlook and CryptoEx Notes serve as encryption-tools for both, external and internal email-traffic. Using end-to-end security means that the data are encrypted for the entire transfer, from the sender to the recipient. However, this exceptionally safe method of encryption will not allow to search emails for viruses on the server. The integration of AntiVir into the CryptoEx Security Software guarantees that it does not contain any viruses before opening an email on the client and that the updates of the virus definition file (VDF) are always up-to-date.

„In the past, encryption and the scanning for viruses were never compatible. Due to the excellent cooperation of our development team, we managed to close this gap. With this we are able to offer our clients an even more extensive security solution“, states Christian Kanja, spokesman of the board of the Glück & Kanja Technology AG. Reinhold Hammer, Director Sales & Marketing of H+BEDV, adds the following: „It was our intention to close a latent security gap in the electronic communication exchange and to offer a viable, efficient and reliable solution at the same time. This technological partnership between CryptoEx and AntiVir allows the users’ encrypted emails to be free of virulent content. This,of course is a crucial step to higher company-security.“
