AntiVir Combats Adware and Spyware

Tettnang, 07 June 2005 - The today's release of the AntiVir version 6.31 will provide the customers of H+BEDV Datentechnik GmbH with new important functionalities: This includes the detection and elimination of adware and spyware as well as on-access-scanning for 64 Bit Linux and FreeBSD platforms. The specialist of cross-system business security solutions has herewith managed to get over a scenario of dangers that is changing permanently.

Both adware and spyware are pressing users more and more. According to current surveys, 70% of computer users are more threatened by adware and spyware than by classic viruses. Adware and spyware can be basically divided into two variants; the less offensive variant are ad banners or ad pop-ups. The second variant, which is more dangerousHeH, spies personal data of the user such as passwords or credit card numbers, or the Internet usage is recorded and it is very often sent to third parties without knowledge or approval. H+BEDV Datentechnik has found a countermeasure and equips all of its Windows and UNIX products with a functionality to detect and remove adware and spyware for the Business Solutions and for the PersonalEdition Premium. This area forms an integral part of virus and malware detection. The virus lab and the outbreak reaction team of H+BEDV take care that new hazards with adware and spyware are immediately detected and that the corresponding signatures and repair information are promptly provided through updates.

It is increasingly more important to protect those computer workstations due to the strong prevalence of UNIX environments and the increasing networking of appliances with the different Linux variants. The AntiVir UNIX products Workstation, Server, MailGate and WebGate have been running on 64 Bit environments for quite a long period of time and on access scanning for 64 Bit Linux and FreeBSD platforms is also possible since the release of version 6.31 . This enhances security considerably. This enhancement was possible with the increase of the Dazuko driver up to 64 Bit. Dazuko is an open source project for cross-platform file access control, which was initiated and is supported by H+BEDV (further information about Dazuko at www.dazuko.org).
