The Ravens are a local Rugby Team in the Lake Constance region from – as you might have guessed because of the name – Ravensburg. I’m not quite sure how many of you are familiar with the sport, but Rugby is kind of similar to American Football which comes as no surprise. After all according to Wikipedia “the history of American football can be traced to early versions of rugby football and association football.”
So why mention them on the blog? Well – first off Rugby is a pretty cool game and some of you might be interested in it no matter what. Perhaps a few of you locals didn’t even know the team existed and are gonna check it out now. Secondly: At the beginning of the year Avira sponsored some the uniforms for the team. Take a look at the picture below, they look rather slick!
Since then we’ve received several updates on the team status that we want to share with you guys.
- In March/April the team played 2 friendly games which they won. The opponents were the Vorarlberg RUFC in Höchst, Austria and Red Pride Rugby in Vaduz, Liechtenstein.
- Their TRY Nations Challenge games went really well – but take a look at it yourself.
- Best of all, they are playing again on Saturday, August 22nd, so if you are in the region you might want to drop by. Their opponents are the Gentlemen of Albion, a UK team.
Oh and by the way: the 2015-16 season of the TRY Nations will be starting in September, as well as the Rugby World Cup – just in case you were wondering. 😉
