We at Avira are basically predestined to be interested in a lot of things the maker community has to offer. Yet, being a maker yourself can be rather expensive – depending on what your poison is. It gets even worse if you are not only interested in one of the many fields but two or more. And what if you want to try out something new or only dabble in a couple of the different fields? You probably see the dilemma.
That’s where makerspaces – and we – come in. Our vision is to set up a Makerspace at Avira`s Headquarter in Tettnang to establish a community in the Lake Constance area, with a specialization on tools and equipment that connect the software and the hardware world (e.g. Internet of Things/Everything). The value proposition offered by the Avira Makerspace is an innovative learning environment open to the community of maker-enthusiasts – Therefore accessibility is a key value and the space is not limited to Avira employees only. Yes, you’ve read that right – it would be opened to maker communities, too.
In order to get things started we are hosting an info session together with TechShop where we present our intent and would like to get your feedback to shape this vision together and make it reality.
The session will take place on Wednesday, 21 Sep 2016 18:00. If you are interested in it, please feel free to sign up here.
What is your experience with makerspaces if you have any? Are you an enthusiast, too? Let us know in the comments below – and if you are from the Tettnang area, perhaps we’ll even see you at our event. 🙂
