AV Comparatives, based in Austria, is a leading independent reviewer of security software.
Avira scored a double 100% detection rating for both current Mac-specific malware and the top 250 cases of Windows malware, stopping Mac malware and keeping the protected devices from passing malware on through to other PCs.
“We stayed true to our promise; we’ve made an easy to use product that delivers what it promises – protection,” said Boris Cipot, product manager for Avira Antivirus for Mac.
The developer team for Avira Antivirus for Mac scored a direct compliment for its quick responsiveness to user and reviewer comments. AV Comparatives reviewers had suggested one month ago that a log function and Finder context menu would be useful program additions. “We are pleased to report that Avira responded very rapidly to this, and released a newer version that includes both of these features; we have updated this review accordingly,” wrote the reviewers.
“Listening to our customers – whether they are everyday users or reviewers – is the key to success of this product,” said Cipot. “Our goal is to quickly implement the features that they want and need without overcrowding it with unneeded features that just confuse the user.”
The expandable tool tips in the main program window drew plaudits and screenshots from the reviewers. With this function, hovering the mouse over a button on the left-hand menu panel brings up a big tool tip, and clicking on the arrow shows more details.
Avira Antivirus for Mac is available for free at the Avira website and at most download pages. It is accompanied by Avira Antivirus Pro for Mac, a paid version with additional customer service features.
