A good Android Antivirus app has four primary features: It should protect your online security, not slow you down, look out for your device’s physical security – and get certified by an independent testing organization that it really works.
Avira Antivirus Security Pro successfully checked all four features when it went through the latest battery of tests from AV-Test and won certification. AV-Test ran Avira’s Android flagship security app – along with 19 other mobile security products – through a barrage of tests that looked at their protection, usability, and features. “We focused on malware detection and usability, including performance and false positives. Products had to demonstrate their capabilities using all components and protection layers,” stated AV-Test in their report.
For Avira, these test results confirmed that our approach to Android security is working:
We managed to achieve 12.5 out of 13 possible points. Broken down by category, this means 5.5 of 6 for Protection, the full 6 for Usability, and 1 out of possible 1 for our additional features. — Alexander Vukcevic, Head of the Avira Virus Labs.
Protection well above the norm
Online security for Avira means blocking out threats such as bogus apps pushing adware and the latest ransomware. In addition, the phishing protection in the Pro variant also protects users from visiting fraudulent sites.
AV-Test confirmed that the Avira approach works as they tested the app’s malware detection capabilities from two angles: real-time detection ability and detecting a bundle of the most recent malware samples.
Avira met the challenge, scoring well above the test averages on both counts, stopping 99.5% of the first bundle and 99.6% of the second. The overall average in the test was 97.8% and 98.5%, respectively.
Usability without falsehoods
An effective #antivirus is simply usable: it won’t slow you down, drain the battery, or mess up your life with false positives. Get it now for #Android: https://www.avira.com/en/free-antivirus-android
Avira scored very high in usability, getting good marks for its limited impact on battery life, data traffic, and impact on normal usage. Almost more importantly, Avira flawlessly went through 1,966 apps from Google Play and 1,265 apps from 3rd party stores without a single false positive – better than the industry average of 8 and 5 false positives, respectively.
Physical security is a critical additional feature
Losing or misplacing a phone is as much of a security issue as the latest malware. Avira got an extra point from AV-Test for its anti-theft features such as the locational alarm and the remote lock and wipe. In addition, reviewers noted the Identity Safeguard and Privacy Advisor features. With the Pro variant, you can also easily restrict access to your device camera.
Listen to the independent voice
Independent certification that an antivirus app really works is important and we are pleased that Avira Antivirus Pro for Android has won the “AV-Test Certified Android” seal from AV-Test. You can get Antivirus Pro for Android directly from Avira.com or through Google Play.
