Tablet PCs and Smartphones Top the List of Most Coveted Holiday Tech Gadgets in Avira Survey

Consumers Also Want Network-enabled TVs and Gaming Consoles for the Holidays; But ¼ of Those Polled Dislike Tech Gifts Under the Tree

Tettnang, Germany, December 7, 2011 – Just under 60 percent of consumers polled in a November survey by IT security expert Avira are hoping to receive a tablet PC or a smartphone for the holidays. Network-enabled TVs came in at just over 10 percent while gaming consoles are being requested by seven percent of the survey respondents. Interestingly, 24 percent said they didn’t want to receive a tech gadget as a gift for the holidays.

What new IT gadget would you like for the holidays?

  1. 29.86% - Tablet PC
  2. 28.09% - Smartphone
  3. 24.08% - I dislike tech gadgets as a gift.
  4. 10.83% - Network-enabled TV
  5. 7.14% - Gaming Console

1,246 respondents with a margin of error of +/- 2.78 percent.

"It was very interesting to find out what gadgets people are expecting and equally interesting to hear that 1 out of 4 do not want those types of gifts during the holidays," said Elisabeth Rothbart, PR Manager at Avira.
