Help viewer not available anymore once Avira Mac Security has been installed and uninstalled several times

In rare cases, the help within Avira Mac Security is not available anymore once you have installed and uninstalled the application several times. You need to clear the help cache to fix the problem.

Please follow these steps:

  1. Quit Avira Mac Security
  2. Quit help viewer (with Avira or any other application)
  3. Open the Terminal and enter the following command to end the process “helpd”

    sudo killall helpd
  4. Remove "com.apple.help" in Preferences with
    rm /Users/*yourusername*/Library/Preferences/com.apple.help.plist
    and
    rm /Users/*yourusername*/Library/Preferences/com.apple.helpviewer.plist

  5. Remove "com.apple.helpd" in Caches with
    rm –r /Users/*yourusername*/Library/Caches/com.apple.helpd
    and
    rm –r /Users/*yourusername*/Library/Caches/com.apple.helpviewer

Help should now be available again.
