Technical DetailsWorm/Bagz.B is a massmailer that uses its own SMTP engine to send itself to emailaddresses it can find on the infected system.

When activated, the worm makes the registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\
"syslogin.exe" = "syslogin.exe"

It creates the files:
\%SystemDIR%\syslogin.exe
\%SystemDIR%\tutorial.zip
\%SystemDIR%\dl.exe

and it also makes a copy of itself in System or System32 directory:
\%SystemDIR%\tutorial.doc<%blanks%> .exe

After creating its files, the worm deactivates the Windows firewall, using the command:
"netsh firewall ipv4 set opmode | mode=disable"

Then the worm can download and run files. It creates its own network drive, to handle the firewall:
\%SystemDIR%\drivers\ndisrd.sys
\%SystemDIR%\ndisapi.dll
\%SystemDIR%\ndisrd.sys

The worm searches then for emailaddresses on the system, as well as for the IP address of the infected computer and for the email gateway, and saves them into the following temporary files:
\%SystemDIR%\ipdb.dll
\%SystemDIR%\jobdb.dll
\%SystemDIR%\wdate.dll
