Avira wins the Advanced+ award
Mon, 04 December 2006
Tettnang, 4 December 2006 – In the second part of the AV-Comparatives Test, 15 virus scanners of well-known vendors were again tested for their proactive detection performance. One of these was the Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium Version 7.01.01.02. It achieved excellent results in two of the three test runs and as a result won the Advanced+ Award. Avira AntiVir had already achieved a very good result in the first test, the detection rate only.
The central focus of the test this time were further important criteria by which the performance of anti-virus
software must be measured: the detection rate of unknown malware using proactive technologies such as the AHeAD heuristic. The frequency of false positives and the speed of the scanner were also tested. Avira AntiVir took first place for generic and heuristic detection and for scanning speed, beating all other programs tested in each case. The testers were particularly impressed with the scanning speed: Avira AntiVir scans 7.55 Megabytes of data per second! In the third part of the test, the rate of false positives, Avira AntiVir achieved a good mid-table place. To sum up: overall the software from Avira is one of the best available on the anti-virus market at the moment – reason enough for the testers to give it the “Advanced+ Award”.
