Avira clears out recognition files
Mon, 27 October 2008
Avira is updating the main virus recognition file. The download is 15 MByte and due to the large volume it is expected that update times may take longer.
Tettnang, 27 October 2008 – Avira has connected eight additional servers for the major update of its recognition file and added an additional 6GB of bandwidth in order to ease the download time. Slight delays are expected with the update, especially to the 60 million Avira AntiVir Personal – Free Antivirus users.
The update will benefit users of the Avira protection software with a speed enhancement of the antivirus solution. The antivirus specialists are removing hundreds of thousands of recognition patterns from the recognition file which are now being handled by generic detection methods. By doing his the memory requirement is reduced and less pattern comparisons are needed.
Due to the fact that the recognition file is very large (about 15mb) it may cause a delay in delivery. Avira has made additional bandwidth and servers available to users of the commercial versions. Users of free Avira AntiVir Personal – Free Antivirus may experience update delays due to the demand of more than 60 million users, even with the additional bandwidth and servers. Avira recommends that if users require an update sooner to choose a time when less users are online – normally this is from midnight to the early hours of the morning.
