AV-Test.de confirms high detection rates of Avira

Tettnang, 5 September 2006 – Avira gives proof, once again, of its high quality claims in terms of IT security for private and corporate users. The antivirus test lab AV-Test.de spread more than 30 antivirus programs on approximately 300,000 files with the latest malware in a comprehensive test run.

The result: The Avira AntiVir for Windows directly rushed on the second place thanks to the high detection rates (99,952%) of the Avira AntiVir products. AntiVir also came in first indirectly: the first place proves, according to eweek.com, “… Webwasher (99,97%) which uses the AntiVir engine …“. Therefore, the test AV-Test has performed recently is especially important for Avira.

AV-Test.de is a project of the work group commercial information technology on the Institute for Technical and Operational Information Systems of Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg (Germany) in cooperation with AV-Test GmbH. The business performs order tests of antivirus, anti-spyware and Personal firewall software for magazines for instance. The test took place in the AV-Test lab without interruptions for close to one week on 16 high performance computer systems. According to AV-Test.de, the test environment consists of Trojans, bots, backdoors and spyware. This kind of malware amounts to more than 80 percent of the malware in circulation.
