More about the preparation to migration
Avira will support the prior version 8 until
31 March 2010. This gives you plenty of time to plan your migration accurately and to include it in your business’ maintenance cycle.
Plan your migration
Migration of version 8 to version 9 can be nearly automatic. However, it is advantageous and necessary to plan the migration for larger installations. You should not only arrange the date of migration, but also check some basic factors:
Has your system been updated so far and what is the migration process like for the different upgrade scenarios (manually, through silent setup, the Avira Security Management Center)?
How shall migration be performed? The administrator (manually or centrally via the Internet, the AntiVir Security Management Center) or every user independently?
Do you want to migrate the configuration of version 8 to the new version 9 or do you want to take the opportunity and re-configure your system?
Make sure that tools which restrict or monitor the user’s read and write permission to the system areas of the registry don’t disable or prohibit access at the time of migration.
You should test the migration on a separate system if you’re planning a large installation and if migration is successful, you can perform migration on your live system.
Update your system for the migration
Avira will provide a migration update for the prior version 8 before the release of the Q1-2009 version. This update is provided for the Avira AntiVir Windows desktop products and for Avira AntiVir Server Windows. After performing this update, your version 8 will be able to inform you about the availability of version 9 and how to download the new version. It is important you perform this update.
If you have used the Avira Internet Update Manager to make updates and you want to keep this method, you need to update the Avira IUM to version 2.4, which will be released in Q1-2009.
