More about the necessity to migrate

With version 9 we have not only introduced a whole variety of new features. The directory and registry entries for the Avira AntiVir Windows desktop products have been standardized, which simplifies cross upgrading with the different programs.

Version 9 also has a new updater which, for instance, reduces the need to reboot after an update to an absolute minimum. The update is also able to reincorporate an interrupted update on the break point and supports all proxy authentication methods including NTLM.

These changes make version 9 incompatible with the prior version 8. Version 8 has to be uninstalled therefore before version 9 can be installed. The migration process is automatic as a rule for single-user installations and for installations of up to 20 clients. Valid licenses are transferred, the configuration settings are adjusted and accepted, other than for a few exceptions.
