There are different ways to install the AntiVir license from the Avira Online Shop. First ensure that you have the right AntiVir software. Otherwise, the license is invalid when installing the license. This guide is designed for Avira AntiVir Premium and Avira Premium Security Suite.

Your order confirmation email (for example, with the subject: Ref.Nr. 1234567: Your order for products from Avira GmbH) contains the activation code for the AntiVir product you have purchased. Please copy or print out this email, as you will require it during the installation.
Please take the following steps:
- Open our website www.avira.com and click on the Downloads menu, to download the program file.
By clicking on the desired AntiVir product, for instance on Avira AntiVir Premium, you can select the program file for the download. Save the program on your hard drive (e.g. on the Desktop) and start the installation by double-clicking the program file.
Program file AntiVir Premium: antivir_workstation_winu_en_hp.exe
Program file Avira Premium Security Suite: prem_sec_winnt_en_hp.exe
If you already have another Avira version on your computer, the set-up program will ask you if you wish to uninstall it. Please confirm this by selecting Yes. A restart will be necessary, then the installation continues automatically.
- Please enter the activation key included in the email.
If you already have a license file HBEDV.KEY, you can enter it here. Click on the HBEDV.KEY link in the sentence I already have a valid HBEDV.KEY License file.
Alternatively, you can use AntiVir as a test version for 30 days.
Note: You require an Internet connection to activate the product. If you are using a proxy server you may need to configure the Proxy settings.
In the next window you need to enter your personal data, to create the license. The fields that have a * are mandatory.
The information about your license is now displayed. Please check your data and confirm with Next.
- The installation will then continue and can be completed by clicking on Finished.
- Open the AntiVir software by clicking on the AntiVir symbol on your desktop. You will see the main window (Control Center) of AntiVir after completing the installation and the first update.

These instructions explain how to extend your current AntiVir license and also how to convert a test license into a full license.
- Open the AntiVir main window with: Start -> Programs -> Avira or from the program icon on the Desktop.
- Click on the Help menu and select Licensemanagement.
- Enter the activation code you have just obtained to renew the license from the online shop.
If you have not purchased a new license yet, please select the option Extend license. You will be directed to the online shop where you can buy a license.
After completing the purchase and obtaining the activation key, you need to go back to section 1 of the instructions: “B. Renew AntiVir license”.

When entering the activation key (OTC), you might encounter one of the following error messages:
- Error code 407:
It is not possible to connect with the activation server. A proxy is used for Internet connection.
Solution: Configure your Proxy settings in the license assistant.
- Error code 551:
The activation code was not correctly inserted.
Solution: Check the code you inserted. Pay attention to capitalization and to the "-" character between the 5 blocks.
- Error code 555:
You are using an OTC that does not match the AntiVir software you are using.
Solution: Please stop the installation, check the AntiVir version in the order confirmation email and download the corresponding AntiVir software program from the Download area on www.avira.com.
- Error code 556:
The license period of the OTC entered has expired.
Solution: Purchase a new OTC from our online shop.
- No Internet connection:
Please check your Internet connection. AntiVir was not able to connect to the license server to activate your product. Please contact our Customer Care Center at avpe@avira.com, if you do not have an Internet connection and wish to activate your Avira software.
