According to your system's environment, you can carry out a local installation, or you can upgrade via SMC.

Local installation

We have provided a simple, interactive installation script. To run the script:

Server 3:

• $ gzip -d antivir-server-prof-3.0.2-5.tar.gz
• $ tar xvf antivir-server-prof-3.0.2-5.tar
• $ cd antivir-server-prof-3.0.2-5
   
• $./install

Workstation 3:

• $ gzip -d antivir-workstation-prof-3.0.2-5.tar.gz
• $ tar xvf antivir-workstation-prof-3.0.2-5.tar
• $ cd antivir-workstation-prof-3.0.2-5
   
• $./install
   

Installation via SMC

Starting with Q1/2009 release, version 3 requires Agent version 2.4.

Important: Before installing any version 3 product, you have to upgrade the old Agent 1.8 to Agent 2.4, to ensure the management of the new Unix version 3 products via SMC.

Attention: Please carry out the steps below, exactly in the specified order.

1. Update SMC

First, you have to modify the update directory of the Internet Update Manager. When the update is finished, a one-time error message might appear on the SMC Client(s). This error is triggered through the old Agent. To reset the status: right-click on the system and select Reset error state.

Important: You have to update your SMC before starting upgrading Unix products to version 3!

During SMC Server's update, the connection between Frontend and Server is terminated. You have to log in to the Server again. Please close the Frontend and open it again after 15 seconds.

Then you have to update the SMC Frontend. After update, the Frontend is closed and you have to open it and log in to the Server again.

2. Remove old product versions from your systems

The following versions used to be managed with the Agent 1.8 and now have to me removed:

• Avira AntiVir Server (UNIX) - Version 2.x
• Avira AntiVir Workstation (UNIX) - Version 2.x
• Avira AntiVir MailGate (UNIX) - Version 2.x
• Avira AntiVir MailGate (UNIX) - Version 3.0.0-14
• Avira AntiVir WebGate (UNIX) - Version 1.3
• Avira AntiVir WebGate (UNIX) - Version 3.0.0-11

Procedure:
Right-click the computer/ group/ Security Environment and select Installation - <product> - Uninstall.

Important: Please repeat this step for all the products you have in the environment, before migrating to the new Agent. If you do not remove all the old products, some errors will occur after installing the new Agent.

3. Uninstall the old Agent 1.8

Right-click the computer/ group/ Security Environment and select Installation (- Avira SMC Agent) - Uninstall.

Important: Please do not remove the software packages from Software Repository yet. Most of them may be automatically updated, as described in the following step.

4. Update Software Repository

Go to Configurations - Internet Update Manager and deactivate the option Automatic mode.

Then you can update the Software Repository:
Right-click on Software Repository and select Update Software Repository - Execute update.

Note: Please remember to activate the Automatic mode option in Configuration - Internet Update Manager afterwards.

5. Install the new Agent 2.4

Since you updated SMC, the new Agent version is already in the Software Repository. You can now proceed directly with the Agent's installation.

Procedure:
Right-click the computer/ group/ Security Environment and select Installation - Avira SMC Agent - Install.

6. Add the Server and Workstation version 3 to the Software Repository

Server 3 (UNIX) and Workstation 3 (UNIX) are completely new products, with new product IDs. You have to add them to the Software Repository.

Procedure:
Go to Software Repository - New - Software, browse and select the new software and then press Open.

Example: Server 3 (UNIX)

7. Install new products

Right-click the computer/ group/ Security Environment and select Installation - <product> - Install.

Example: Server 3 (UNIX)

Important: Please do not install products with older versions on clients with Agent 2.4, because they are not compatible.
