Information about migration
What does migration mean?
Migration describes the process of transition of the AntiVir Windows Workstation, version 6, to the new AntiVir Windows Workstation, version 7.
A migration requires that the prior version 6 is completely uninstalled before the new version 7 can be installed; this method thus differs from a mere update installation. This process is also designated as upgrade because the version number of the program also changes (from 6 to 7).
Why is a migration required?
AntiVir Windows Workstation focuses on a completely new program architecture. This new architecture is not compatible anymore with the architecture of the prior version and requires to uninstall the AV 6 before installing the AV 7.
Preparing the migration
You should plan the migration/the upgrade to the new AntiVir Windows Workstation, version 7. You don’t have to upgrade immediately, you can take your time till 31 August 2006. Please select the most convenient time and take your time when preparing for the migration.
Different migration or upgrade scenarios
AntiVir Windows Workstation is used for various scenarios, which could be as a one-user version or a multiple user version in medium-sized or larger networks. Because of this reason, AntiVir Windows Workstation can be updated by means of different processes, depending on the demands and the available infrastructure.
Those different user and update scenarios are naturally also considered and supported for the migration/the upgrade to version 7.
The Upgrade Assistant
The migration/upgrade to version 7 has been automated by and large. Because of this reason, not only the known upgrade processes are supported but also the installation routine of version 7 will additionally include a so called Upgrade Assistant.
