The registry is the central part of Windows where all configuration information is stored. By changing the settings for Internet Explorer in the registry it is possible to lower the security settings. This makes Internet Explorer more vulnerable to other attacks later. A script or HTML page trying to change settings in the registry causes the heuristics to detect it as HTML/IEReg.Gen.
