Avira Web Protection protects you against dangerous web content, if categorized as phishing, malware, spam or fraud. However, if you want to access a blocked website, being 100% certain that its content is harmless, you have the following possibilities:

1. Create an exception for particular websites

1. Double-click the Avira umbrella icon on the desktop, to start Avira software.
2. Click on Extras → Configuration
3. Activate the option Expert mode
4. Click on Internet protection → Web Protection → Scan → Exceptions
5. Type the URL of the website(s), which you want to be skipped from scanning, into the field URLs skipped by Web Protection
6. Press OK to save the configuration
   Only the specified sites will not be scanned by Web Protection. Dangerous file downloads will however be reported and blocked.

2. Deactivate the Web-Filter completely or only some categories

1. Double-click the Avira umbrella icon on the desktop, to start Avira software.
2. Choose Extras → Configuration
3. Activate the option Expert mode
4. Click on Internet protection → Web Protection → Scan → Blocked requests

1. Deactivate certain categories in the Web-Filter
   Deactivate the specific categories from the Web-Filter, which should no longer be detected nor blocked. Press OK to save the configuration.

2. Completely deactivate the Web-Filter
   If you want to disable the Web-Filter completely, deactivate the option "Activate web filter". The Web Protection will no longer warn you of dangerous web content. Dangerous file downloads will however be reported and blocked.

In Avira Internet Security 2012 we provide, apart from the 4 categories in Avira Web Protection, a Child Protection feature, which protects you and your children against various Internet sites.

If you activate the module (not activated by default) and then you cannot access certain websites, please enable Child Protection (see screenshot below) or add an exception (whitelist= allow), as described in our KB article How does the new Child Protection in Avira Internet Security 2012 work?

3. Deactivate Web Protection

1. Double-click the Avira umbrella icon on the desktop, to start Avira software.
2. Click on the I sign next to Web Protection

After this configuration, visited websites are no longer scanned by Web Protection. Dangerous file downloads are neither reported nor blocked. The Web Protection is disabled until manual activation or restart of the computer.

4. Uninstall Web Protection

If you decide not to use Web Protection anymore, you can uninstall this module. Go to Control Panel → Add/ Remove Software (or Programs and Features), select the Avira software and press Change. Under Change program deselect Web Protection and click Next until Finish. The Web Protection is completely removed from your Avira software.
