What to do if Avira services are inactive on Windows Vista
If, after first installing Avira products, you note that Realtime Protection, Mail Protection, Web Protection or the Update-Scheduler is inactive, the fault may lie with the security settings of Windows Vista or Windows Defender. A security program is active by default on Windows Vista.
Please follow these steps, to solve the problem:
- Deactivate Windows Defender from Start → Control Panel → Windows Defender → Extras → Options and deactivate the option Automatically scan computer and Use Windows Defender from Administrative tools and click Save
- Deactivate the User Accounts Control (UAC) from Control Panel → User Accounts and Family Safety → User Accounts → Turn User Account Control on or off Deactivate the checkbox for Use User Account Control (UAC)...
- Restart the computer
- Go to Start → Control Panel → Programs → Programs and Features, select Avira Internet Security or whichever product you have installed and Change, then click Next until Finish
- Restart the computer
Then check in Avira Overview, if all its services are active. You can reactivate UAC afterwards.
