AntiVir WebGuard protects you against dangerous web content, if categorized as phishing, malware, spam or fraud. However, if you want to access a blocked website, being 100% certain, that its content is harmless, you have the following possibilities:

a. Create an exception for particular websites

1. Double-click the Avira umbrella icon on the desktop, to start AntiVir.
2. Click on Extras - Configuration
3. Activate the option Expert mode
4. Click on WebGuard - Scan - Exceptions
5. Type the URL of the website(s), which you want to be skipped from scanning, into the field URLs skipped by WebGuard
6. Press OK to save the configuration
   Only the specified sites will not be scanned by WebGuard. Dangerous file downloads will however be reported and blocked.

    

   

b. Deactivate the Web-Filter completely or only some categories

1. Double-click the Avira umbrella icon on the desktop, to start AntiVir.
2. Choose Configuration
3. Activate the option Expert mode
4. Click on WebGuard, Scan - Locked requests
5. Deactivate certain categories in the Web-Filter
   

   Deactivate the specific categories from the Web-Filter, which should no longer be detected nor blocked. Press OK to save the configuration.

   OR: Completely deactivate the Web-Filter
   If you want to disable the Web-Filter completely, deactivate the option Activate web filter. The WebGuard will no longer warn you of dangerous web content. Dangerous file downloads will however be reported and blocked.

   

In Avira Premium Security Suite we provide, apart from the 4 categories in AntiVir WebGuard, a Parental Control feature, which protects you and your children against various Internet sites.

If you activate the module (not activated by default) and then you cannot access certain websites, please deactivate the Parental Control (see screenshot below) or add an exception (whitelist= allow), as described in our FAQ article AV9: How does the new Parental Control in Premium Security Suite work?.

c. Deactivate WebGuard

1. Double-click the Avira umbrella icon on the desktop, to start AntiVir.
2. Click on the + sign next to Online Protection
3. Click on Deactivate for AntiVir WebGuard
   

   

After this configuration, visited websites are no longer scanned by WebGuard. Dangerous file downloads are neither reported nor blocked. The WebGuard protection is disabled until manual activation or restart of the computer.

d. Uninstall WebGuard

If you decide not to use WebGuard anymore, you can uninstall this module. Go to Control Panel - Add/ Remove Software (or Programs and Functions), select the Avira software and press Change. Under Change program deselect WebGuard and click Next until Finish. The WebGuard is completely removed from your AntiVir software.
