How does URL-Scanning work?

URL-scanning will examine the web page against domain threat history reports to see wether they are hiding any suspicious downloads. Even innocent websites can contain hidden "drive-by downloads".

Cyber criminals use "lure sites" to attract web users to sites they have invisibly infected with exploit code. This exploit code is then used to infect the users' PC with drive-by downloads of spyware, rootkits and other malware.

  • Clicking on a link does not necessarily mean that you will land on the site as intended
  • Just because a site looks innocent, it doesn't necessarily mean that the underlying code is harmless
