I have a virus on my computer. How can I get rid of it?

We recommend that you first carry out a complete scan. Follow these steps:

  1. Open Avira Control Center and click Start update
  2. Start the computer in safe mode (press F8 during restart).
  3. Open Avira Control Center and click PC protection - Scanner in the left menu. Right-click Local Drives and select Start scan.
  4. Restart the computer (in normal mode).
  5. We recommend to scan your system again, in normal mode.

In case of further unexpected virus alerts, you can also use Avira Rescue System to clean your computer, free of charge. You only have to boot your computer from a clean CD-ROM you made with our virus scanner.

We strongly advise you to schedule regular Microsoft updates, for closing eventual security holes.
