If the Avira Workstation (Avira Professional Security, Avira Antivirus Premium 2012, Avira Internet Security 2012) is installed only with the module "Avira Realtime Protection", the services for the "Avira Mail Protection" and the "Avira Web Protection" will be created with the start type "automatic" anyway.

This error has the effect that there is an attempt to start the services of the Mail- and Web Protection after a system reboot, which is of course not possible.

Errors like below will be logged in the Windows Event Viewer as a consequence of this non-functioning service start:

The service "Avira Mail Protection" has been terminated with the following service-specific error: 1 (0x1).

or:

The service "Avira Mail Protection" has been terminated with the following service-specific error: 1 (0x1).

This will be recorded in the Avira log files:
MAILGRD.LOG:
10.02.2011,08:32:14,147 [ERROR] [M] The validation of the Avira LSP failed. Error Code: 24048

WEBGUARD.LOG:
10.02.2011,08:32:13 [ERROR] Initialization failed, step 2
10.02.2011,08:32:13 [INFO] The service was stopped.

The following steps (change installation) can be carried out as a solution to this problem:

Please proceed as follows for a change installation:

1. Navigate to the Windows Control Panel
2. Windows XP: "Software" or Windows Vista / 7: "Uninstall a program"
3. Select from the list "Avira Professional Security" or "Avira Internet Security 2012" or "Avira Antivirus Premium 2012" and then click "Change"
4. Within the window that opened now, click again on Modify and then click Next.
   
   
    
5. Select the desired modules again (in this case only the "Avira Realtime Protection”) and then confirm your selection with Next → Finish

If the PC is managed using the AMC, the change installation should be done as follows:

1. Click the right mouse button on the "PC" or "group"
2. Then select Commands → Avira Professional Security → Install/uninstall modules
3. Then select the desired modules as already described above (i.e. Avira Realtime Protection) and confirm the selection with OK.
