Does Avira detect the "Bundestrojaner"?
"Malware remains malware, and we want our users to feel safe," says Tjark Auerbach, founder and CEO of Avira. "We as Avira have a dedication and commitment to the task of keeping the computer systems of our customers free from malicious software. Like its numerous predecessors, we also detect the virus that is now widely known in the media as the "Bundestrojaner" and supposedly current. This malicious software is reported as "TR/Gruenfink" (TR/Gruenfink.1 and TR/Gruenfink.2).
However, all trojans are the same for the detection process of a modern antivirus program, regardless of its purpose. A distinction between a "legal" and "illegal" field of application is not possible - "a virus remains a virus."
Also, additional heuristic or behavior-based detection mechanisms of anti-virus software examine automatic downloads as well as all files for components that are characteristic for malware. Therefore, if features that are characteristic for malware have been implemented in a so-called "Bundestrojaner", it will be reported already in advance by a reliable anti-virus scanner. Additionally, the user will be warned, even if the malicious software was previously unknown."
