It is possible to migrate an existing AMC installation on another server. However, this cannot be done automatically, but manually by the administrator.

In case the server on which you installed the AMC fails and you cannot communicate the new IP to the Agents, then you have to switch all the Agents to the new server's address as described below (via AMC Frontend):

1. The following AMC files have to be saved and then copied into the new AMC installation:
   • The current Security Environment:
     C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Avira\Avira Security Management Center Server\Nodes.xml
   • Eventually configured AMC jobs:
     C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Avira\Avira Security Management Center Server\ServerTasks.xml
   • Eventually configured AMC users:
     C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Avira\Avira Security Management Center Server\avmcs.ini
   Note:
   Starting with Windows 2008, the profile folder is located under:
   C:\ProgramData\Avira\Avira Security Management Center Server
   
   Note:
   You can apply the above mentioned files to the current security solution, in case the AMC Server fails, to quickly recover the current status.
    
2. Afterwards, you should stop all AMC services in the Windows Services and at least copy the backup of the files Nodes.xml and ServerTasks.xml (if available) into the folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Avira\Avira Security Management Center Server.
3. If you also defined AMC users, you should also restore the file avmcs.ini, then restart AMC services.
4. If you plan moving AMC to a new IP address, you can communicate the new IP to the Agents through the Agent Configuration, in advance. After sending the new configuration, the Agent appears offline in the old AMC, but in the new one, all the Agents appear correctly, without needing to reinstall them.
5. In case the server on which you installed the AMC fails and you cannot communicate the new IP to the Agents, then you have to switch all the Agents to the new server's address as described below (via AMC Frontend):
    
   1. Open Configuration → AMC Agent → Configure, click the Communication settings tab, change the IP address of the new AMC Server in all fields and press Send now. Since all Agents are offline, a pending task is created. This does not affect the procedure.
   2. Then just reinstall the AMC Agent. You do not have to install the AMC Agent on each client again. You can reinstall it remotely from the Configuration menu of the Avira Management Console. To make this easier, you should use an administrative account valid over the entire network.
   3. The Agents are again online and they all have the correct address of the new AMC Server in their configuration.

The communication between the AMC components is entirely secured through SSL certificates, which are included into AMC and the connected Agents.
