New Zero-Day vulnerability in Office 2000
Mon, 04 September 2006
Tettnang, 4 September 2006 – A short time ago, the Avira experts detected a new Trojan which exploits the vulnerability from Microsoft Office that has not been closed yet. Through its Exploit-Detection AntiVir already detected numerous documents that have been manipulated in this manner.
AntiVir detected the infected document with the current VDF update as "W97M/Mdropper.Q". After opening an infected document, the malicious code will generate an “EXE” file in the directory. This particular file called “TR/Small.KC” is detected by Avira AntiVir too.
Avira advises all its users to try to avoid the opening of Office documents that come from unknown sources. Moreover, it is recommended to pay a lot of attention to unexpected documents between teams and to eventually ask the sender for more information.
