Avira warning: new Skype worm in circulation
Tue, 11 September 2007
Tettnang, 11 September 2007 – A new worm is being spread with the aid of the Skype software. It sends messages such as "look what crazy photo Tiffany sent to me, looks cool" to the contacts in the individual Skype contact list. The message contains a link which leads directly to the worm. After the worm is downloaded, it attempts to deactivate various anti-virus solutions. It blocks access to the relevant update servers with the aid of manipulated entries in the Windows hosts file. The servers of Avira AntiVir are not affected by this. AntiVir detects the worm with the current VDF as 'Worm/Skipi.C'.
