Avira protects against the LinkedIn Trojan
Wed, 07 January 2009
Cyber criminals are spreading threats through fake profiles of celebrities in the social network LinkedIn. Avira protects against this threat
Tettnang, 7 January 2009 – Beyoncé, Shakira, Kirsten Dunst, Selma Hayek – they all have one thing in common: A fake profile in the LinkedIn social network. The consequence: innocent users can end up with a Trojan when activating links in the fake LinkedIn profile.
Fake profiles of many celebrities are linked to alleged photos and videos that show them in a semi-naked. After several redirects the victims are subjected to a download that contains the Trojan. On activation, the threat downloads many other harmful components from the Internet and anchors them in the system.
The users of Avira’s anti-virus solutions are protected against this harmful software. The software detects the threats as TR/Dldr.Renos.CH with the virus definition file 7.01.01.79; Avira detects other variants as TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen.
