Fri, 25 January 2008
Tettnang, 25 January 2008 – A security flaw was discovered in the Microsoft Excel which enables attackers to infiltrate systems with malicious code.
Microsoft itself reported the security flaw, which involves Excel 2003 Service Pack 2, Excel Viewer 2003, Excel 2002, Excel 2000 and Microsoft Excel 2004 for Mac. According to Microsoft, specific attacks are currently being carried out via manipulated Office documents.
Avira has provided an update for its AntiVir Engine with immediate effect. The software with millions of satisfied users identifies the manipulated Office documents as EXP/Office.Dropper.Gen or DR/OLE.HiddenEXE.Gen. Avira customers, who automatically or manually update their software with the new engine, are protected against these manipulations.
