Reactivation of ProActiv:

The ProActiv feature in our Windows PC security products has been reactivated in our latest product update.

Is there anything you need to do?

If ProActiv is not currently enabled and you wish to use it, please follow these step-by-step instructions for activating the module.

Why enable ProActiv?

ProActiv improves your security, and that of all our users, by sending suspicious program files to the Avira Virus Lab. This optimizes our ability to respond to unknown malware. Enabling ProActiv has no impact on your privacy, as personal files such as photos and Word documents are never sent to Avira.

Background:

On May 14 and 15, 2012, following the release of Service Pack 0 (SP0) for Avira Version 2012, the ProActiv feature blocked legitimate Windows applications on customers’ PCs.

Affected products:

• Avira Professional Security
• Avira Internet Security 2012
• Avira Antivirus Premium 2012

If you still encounter the issue:

In the unlikely event that applications continue to be blocked by ProActiv, please update your software as follows:

1. Open the Avira Control Center.
2. Click on Update › Start product update.

No further steps are required.

To Disable ProActiv in the future:

1. Open the Avira Control Center.
2. Press the "F8" button to open the Avira Configuration window.
3. Enable the Expert Mode in the upper left corner.
4. Open the following options in the PC Protection menu: "Realtime Protection › ProActiv".
5. Disable the ProActiv component.
6. Close the Avira Configuration window by clicking the OK button.
7. Restart your computer.
