Avira update prevents error message from Vista

Microsoft’s Security Center warns users of Avira’s AntiVir 8 under Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 of possible incompatibilities: The remedy is to update to Avira AntiVir 9 free-of-charge.

Tettnang, 28 July 2009 – The Security Center of Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 recently started working with a new mechanism, which is used by antivirus software to report its status to the operating system. This means that this Windows version may possibly incorrectly warn users of the old Version 8 of AntiVir that their AntiVir package is not working correctly.

However, help is at hand: Anyone updating to the current version of Avira’s AntiVir, Version 9 - which is free-of-charge - will avoid receiving such error message. Affected users can download and install the current Premium version; the license for the new version will continue to be valid until the expiry of the original licensing period. Users of free Avira AntiVir Personal basic protection can obtain the current software version from the www.free-av.com Website.
