TÜV, the German Technical Control Association, confirms that Avira’s corporate solutions detect all current “in the wild” viruses
Tettnang, 17 June 2009 – IT security specialist Avira has had the performance of its anti-virus solutions tested by the Technical Control Association (TÜV). TÜV Saarland has been examining the performance of security software regularly since 2004. With the same continuity, Avira has obtained the much-sought-after TÜV seal of approval for the 100 percent detection of all “in the wild” viruses!
This year, TÜV’s subsidiary tekit Consult GmbH, working in collaboration with AV-Test GmbH, tested the performance of the Avira AntiVir Professional and Avira AntiVir Server. Tests focused on the on-demand virus scanner and the always-on background virus guard on-access.
To satisfy TÜV, a virus scanner must detect all viruses from the in the wild list. This includes infected program files, macro viruses in MS Office documents and script viruses. False positives are not accepted in the testing. Every virus scanner is confronted with clean files that originate from a variety of sources, such as standard installations of Windows 2000, XP, Vista and other popular programs. A certified virus scanner will correctly identify these as “uninfected”.
A scan under Windows Vista, Windows XP and Windows Server 2008 showed that Avira software identified all viruses, not missing a single one. “Once again in 2009 the Avira AntiVir Professional and Avira AntiVir Server anti-virus solutions demonstrated excellent results in the area of widespread wild list viruses,” said Guido Hermanowski, director of sales at tekit Consult Bonn GmbH (TÜV Saarland Group). “The two programs did not put a single foot wrong when analyzing the collection of uninfected objects - in other words there were no false positives.”
“We are very pleased that the excellent performance of our products is confirmed by impartial experts,” said Rainer Witzgall, Executive Vice President at Avira. “We are particularly proud of the fact that the results show we are not just a one-day wonder. After all, we have managed to achieve consistent top results in all detection tests over a long period – in the case of TÜV, for example, we have been demonstrating our quality for the last five years.”
