TÜV approval: Avira AntiVir detects all current "In The Wild" viruses
Tue, 22 August 2006
Tettnang, 22. August 2006 – Avira has succeeded in renewing its certification from TÜV Saarland for the professional AntiVir virus scanner. In the years 2004 and 2005, the company already obtained the test seal for 100 per cent detection of all "in the wild" viruses. This time, the virus protection solution again passed the tests without trouble. This underscores the consistent, reliable quality of the Avira AntiVir products.
The on-demand and on-access scanners of the Avira AntiVir Professional Edition Version 7 under Windows 2000 Professional (Service Pack 4) and under Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 2) were put to the test. The test set was based on the current wild list and consisted of six floppy discs containing boot viruses, 1828 infected program files (incl. email worms), 110 MS Office documents contaminated with macro viruses and 26 script viruses. The Avira software detected all the currently active viruses absolutely reliably when prompted to perform a scan as well as with the virus guard working continuously in the background. Moreover, no false alarms were triggered by the virus scanner with regard to non-infected files. The TÜV Saarland therefore praised the very good performance of AntiVir and awarded Avira the right to use the TÜV Saarland quality seal for a further year.
