Smooth AntiVir Update

Tettnang, 28 July 2008 – On Thursday, 17 July Avira released new versions of Avira AntiVir Personal, AntiVir Premium, Premium Security Suite as well as antivirus solutions for Windows and ISA server. Due to additional bandwidth, which has been increased to 10 GBit temporarily, and the load distributed across 10 servers, it was possible to supply the update by Monday, 21 July without difficulty to all requesting users. The load on the servers has, since the 21 July, returned to normal levels.

The server has supplied an average of 6.9 MB of data for the update per client. In the first 24 hours, there was an accumulated amount of 56 Terabytes of transfer volume. Almost 220 Terabytes was supplied in the first five days up to the 21 July. During this time more than 30 million users updated their protection solution.

The mammoth part of the update traffic went to the users of Avira AntiVir Personal – Free Antivirus. However even they were served without any noticable delay thanks to the increase in bandwidth. Users of the Avira AntiVir Premium, which protects users against drive-by-downloads with a web filter or the Avira Premium Security Suite with an integrated firewall and backup module enjoy reserved bandwidth on 7 additional servers as along with Avira’s business customers. The supply of updates takes place without any delay for these customers.
