Avira NTFS4DOS enables read and write access on NTFS drives for DOS
Tettnang 4 October 2006 – There were times when almost all computer applications were based on DOS systems. However, if you want to access a DOS hard drive you will face the following problem: modern Windows versions run on the so called New Technology File System (NTFS) which means no chance for DOS. With the new Avira solution NTFS4DOS, the users are now able to read and write under DOS on hard drives which are formatted in NTFS. This means: Avira NTFS4DOS provides NTFS drives – thus file systems from Windows NT4, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows server 2003 – over a drive letter. This technology enables the access on NTFS drives over a boot floppy disk.
Because of the low installation size, NTFS4DOS can be ideally saved on a USB stick or a floppy disk. When using the Avira tool, the NTFS drives can be integrated exactly like normal network drives. The access to the drive is also possible if Windows is not installed or it can no longer be started. This unique function turns NTFS4DOS into a strong help for repairing damaged Windows installations and for making antivirus boot floppy disks. In this way the data can be secured, restored in emergencies and replaced if it has been damaged.
“Writing and reading on data carriers demand high reliability as otherwise data can get lost. NTFS4DOS communicates directly with the data system. Therefore, the solution is absolutely reliable and of high performance” explains Gernot Hacker, Chief Operating Officer of Avira. NTFS4DOS grants fast access and high data performance. “The Avira solution doesn’t affect Microsoft’s terms of license in any way”, explains Hacker: “The software doesn’t save Windows components on the boot disk and it doesn’t delete Windows from the original computer.
Avira NTFS4DOS Personal is available for the private, non-commercial use. Both the software and the documentation can be found here: http://www.avira.com. The version for commercial use is called Avira NTFS4DOS Premium and it can be bought now for approximately 20 euro in our online shop. Along with the solutions UnErase, WebProtector, DriveNet and CIA Commander, NTFS4DOS is one of the new tools from the recovery family of Avira.
