Version 9 of the virus protection software is easier to administer and has faster performance
Tettnang, 17 March 2009 – Faster, easier and more scalable! The new generation of Avira products offers businesses and public entities easier administration of the application over the network. Avira has increased the quantity and the quality: The Security Management Center (SMC) can easily manage and administer up to 20,000 clients from a central server. The new workstation anti-virus solution is also being released with additional performance of up to 20 percent due to the support of multi processor and multi kernel systems.
The German IT security expert has worked intensively on the anti-virus software: The Security Management Center (SMC) to administer the virus protection on the clients and the Avira AntiVir Professional client software. The new version 2.4 of the SMC simplifies the central administration of the entire security environment in businesses and can handle up to 20,000 clients. The SMC shows the native configuration dialogues of Avira AntiVir Professional which simplifies the administration.
It is also possible to add clients by IP areas automatically into administered groups. As soon as an SMC agent registers on the client’s SMC server for the first time, the SMC automatically assigns this computer to the corresponding computer group. The SMC can now verify data with directory services, for instance with Microsoft’s Active Directory Service (AD) or with a LDAP server.
Avira AntiVir Professional now supports Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). The WMI helps the administrator to create statistics or to integrate the Professional solutions into the existing management systems and to control them. Just like the end-user product, Avira AntiVir Professional also benefits from the optimizations in the scan engine which are noticeably faster on Windows PCs thanks to the support of multi kernel or multi processor systems.
Avira AntiVir Professional includes up to three configuration profiles in order to guarantee optimum protection everywhere. The protection software can shift independently between the profiles –the software uses different update servers with detected gateway addresses or other protection modules. A local update server can be used in the company network, while Avira AntiVir Professional is using Avira servers on other networks and can activate MailGuard and WebGuard. It is also possible to change profiles manually.
The new products require migration from the prior version Avira AntiVir 8. Avira has created a migration portal at http://www.avira.com/en/support/migrationsportal_av9.html in order to provide you a practically automatic upgrade process.
