Avira presents the Premium Security Suite with integrated firewall
Tettnang, 18 October 2006 – Avira is launching a new, comprehensive protection package for end-users as well as small offices and home workers: the Avira Premium Security Suite is a combination of Avira’s brand-new firewall and the proven anti-virus software AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium. Even less experienced users can cope with the numerous security threats from the Internet with the central, intuitively operated user interface of the Suite. The Avira Premium Security Suite is available from November for EUR 39.90 (recommended retail price) in the Avira Online Shop and in specialist retail stores. Those purchasing online are at the same time contributing to a good cause, as five euro of the purchase price go towards the Auerbach Foundation.
So that private individuals can protect their IT environment even more comprehensively against the wide variety of digital attacks, Avira has developed a personal firewall that is certified as “Designed for Windows”. The software is directly installed on the PC and filters all incoming and outgoing connections – including wireless ones. After installation, protection is immediately available, which in addition to worms and Trojans also blocks phishing attacks, dialers, adware and spyware. Individual changes in configurations such as the setting of security modes are made via a virtual slider.
More security is necessary: there are currently hundreds of thousands of digital attackers in circulation that attempt to infiltrate the PC system via email or the Internet. Computer viruses are more than just a nuisance – many represent a serious danger, as they can steal personal information, for example, with which unauthorized persons can obtain access to bank accounts without permission or gain control over the computer from the outside. To prevent such scenarios, the Avira firewall supplements the various security modules of the Premium version of Avira AntiVir. These include the powerful anti-virus scanner, the optimized heuristic AHeAD (Advanced Heuristic Analysis and Detection) and a MailGuard function for monitoring of the POP-3 mail traffic.
”Organized crime is more and more often behind attacks from the Internet. Even private households are not safe from these”, explains Gernot Hacker, security expert and chief operating officer of Avira. “To make it as difficult as possible for the attackers, private communication should be protected and all potential gateways closed. Windows is not exactly known as being secure, an upstream firewall greatly reduces the potential target area.
