Avira supports AMTSO
Thu, 21 February 2008
Tettnang, 21 February 2008 – Antivirus experts have joined together to form “AMTSO”, an initiative to improve test standards for anti-virus software. The German IT security expert Avira has been involved as a supporter from the very beginning.
As one of the first members, Avira welcomes the foundation of the Anti-Malware Testing Standards Organization, AMTSO for short, which was finally concluded in Bilbao (Spain). The aim is to develop new standards and guidelines for anti-malware tests. In addition to the IT security experts from Avira, over 40 other experts from the anti-virus field attended the conference.
The reason for the foundation of the organization is that many tests have been carried out for years using the same methods. To ensure the high level of protection against increasing numbers of new dangers and increasingly brazen hacker methods security programs have become increasingly complex. Therefore, the standards which are set for anti-virus solutions are often no longer relevant and may lead to imprecise results.
