Professional doorman: Avira AntiVir Unix WebGate monitors Internet traffic
Tue, 10 July 2007
New version of the software now also supports data transmission via streams, range requests and HTTPS tunneling
Tettnang, 10 July 2007 – No entry! This applies at least to virulent contents that attempt to infiltrate a company network via an Internet gateway protected with Avira AntiVir Unix WebGate. For uncompromising protection on the main gateway, the software checks all incoming and outgoing Internet traffic in real time and prevents access where necessary. In the new version, Avira AntiVir Unix WebGate now also processes data streams such as Internet radio or video files.
In the age of Web 2.0, the uploading and downloading of multimedia files is a natural part of Internet use. Avira AntiVir Unix WebGate now takes the continual technical development of such file formats into account: for the first time, data streams such as Internet radio and video files can now also get past the proxy server. In the same way, parts of files can be processed which are sent as a response to range requests. Transmission in the form of range requests is frequently used to ensure that in the event of an interruption a download is resumed at exactly the same point at which it was interrupted.
Avira AntiVir Unix WebGate now also enables so-called HTTPS tunneling, where encrypted data is exchanged between companies via pre-defined ports. The revised version can therefore also be used for those parts of data traffic that only have to be forwarded but not checked, as they come from a trustworthy source.
“In the development of our professional IT security solutions, it is very important for us that safe surfing and downloading without a decrease in performance is possible for businesses of all sizes”, explains Tjark Auerbach, founder and CEO of Avira. “AntiVir WebGate can be ideally adapted to the individual technical circumstances and company security directives. The clear graphical user interface ensures easy operation and automatic updates keep the software up to date at all times.”
Avira AntiVir Unix WebGate is now available at a price of EUR 295.12 incl. sales tax as an annual license for ten users from Avira and its certified partners. Use as a stand-alone solution without a proxy and proxy-based use are possible.
