QA Engineer – Browser Plugins (m/f)

Position Summary

As a member of the Distributed Protection Systems and Research Team you will design and implement new security technologies. You constantly interact with an international team of open-minded computer scientists located in Romania, Germany and The Netherlands to find the very best solutions to a diverse set of interesting problems. You evaluate requirements with other teams within the Avira Protection Labs in order to react to the newest malware trends when designing new products.

You have a degree in computer sciences and a solid understanding of manual, automation and performance testing. You have experience in the field of browser plugins and you are familiar with modern web technologies. You have a sixth sense to find bugs on all layers of an application and you are familiar with different debugging techniques. Additionally you have the ability to learn new technologies within a short timeframe. Ideally you have prior experience with JavaScript testing frameworks (e.g. QUnit, Jasmine), Linux, Chrome API, Firefox API, Safari API and Git.

Performance objectives

  • Starting from day one you will familiarize yourself with our vision of the “secure web”-project. Within one month you understand the software architecture of the existing cloud-based system, so that you can build automated tests using testing frameworks for a browser plugin.

  • In addition, within the first six months you will design and implement a robust automated testing system. You document all testing patterns and ways to diagnose issues in our browser plugin. Additionally you have established solid communication links to our CI department and are responsible for the coordination of the testing activities regarding the browser plugins.
  • A year into the job you are part of a team that delivers the most up to date browser security solution to our millions of customers and that for all major browsers. You increase the quality of our product and continuously improve the testing environment. You play a big part in securing and supporting the digital lifestyle of our customers and making the internet a more secure place.
